Technology Takes a Road Trip
Chicago to Vegas Trip
by Stephen R.Jones (November 15, 1998)
To give you a more personal perspective about mobile products and technology, Reviews OnLine is taking it on the road! Rick Smith will be driving out to Comdex as he tests mobile technology between Chicago and Las Vegas on his way to Comdex. He will be carrying a Sony Mavica MVC-FD7 camera, 2 IBM Thinkpad 755CE laptops with docking station, 2 IBM Thinkpad 755CE units with docking station, 2 Compaq Concerto pen computers, with an IBM 750PE as a backup pen and laptop computer. To communicate during Comdex, our editors and ground transportation will be using the new Motorola TalkAbout 250 radios. To make sure he gets there he will be comparing Etak SkyMap, SkyMap Pro and DeLorme TripMate. For printing needs he will be using a Brother HJ-100i printer with sheet feeder. He will be driving out to Las Vegas in a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer.
After Comdex Update:
Rick and Jim had a great time at Comdex and were the envy of many people with those Motorola Talkabout 250 radios. Rick tells me that everyone thought they were so COOL! He was sad to see them go, so Rick recommends the Talkabout 250 radios and loves ALL their features, including their attention getting color and blinking lights. Of course, he would like to have even more range, but these units worked extremely well at Fall Comdex, one of the largest computer events in the world!
