Macromedia Fireworks 4
A Powerful Web Tool
by Rick Smith (February 23, 2001)
A great number of powerful features have been added to and remain part of Fireworks 4. The most important features, illustrated on the following pages, are:
Pop-Up Menu Creator - multi-level menus can be easily created without writing code.
Easier Rollover changes - rollover buttons remained linked to visual cue.
Powerful Batch Processing - images can be resized, adjusted and renamed in "batch" operation.
Lossless Round trip edits - Custom code remains intact between edits
Precise export controls - file extension and HTML format can be accurately defined - no more renaming!
Selective JPG compression - unimportant background portions of images can be heavily compressed, while the subject remains clear and distinct resulting in smaller file size.
Other important features are:
Resolution independent Vector graphics that can be easily created within Fireworks. These layers can be preserved for further edits.
Tables that survive the "round trip" edit process between applications.
Easy creation of GIF animations that involve motion, scaling, rotating or fading of an object over several frames.
Easy modifications to text, fonts and URLs within HTML pages, that don't require using an external program.
Creation of text, live effects, layers and object masks that can also be edited in Photoshop.
A layers panel that resembles the layers palette in Photoshop.
Let's continue on our journey, as I detail some of the important Fireworks 4 features.
