iSi ORKA glove
high technology for your kitchen
by Rick Smith (January 12, 2003)

Ever need to grab something out of a pot of boiling water? While there are tongs, scoops and strainers, the best solution is to grab the object directly with an iSi ORKA glove.
Made from silicone, this glove give you the ability to handle high-temperature foods and hot cooking utensils. Because the ORKA glove can handle temperatures as high as 500 degrees Fahrenheit, you can safely remove foods from boiling water or hot oil.
The OKRA is waterproof, so it won't stain and is completely dishwasher safe. Unlike cloth mitts, the ORKA glove is non-absorbent and non-porous, so foods and liquids can be simply wiped off, keeping this glove germ-free. This ridged non-slip glove can be worn on either hand to:
take hot dishes out of the oven
move frying pans around the stovetop
lift cooked items off the barbecue
remove eggs from boiling water
remove onion rings from a deep fryer
Silicone is fast becoming a useful technology in the kitchen. While your kitchen counter is probably sealed with caulk, made of silicone, many kitchen utensils are being made of silicone. This is because silicone is very good at deflecting heat. Silicone's heat resistance makes it the best choice for the heat resistant tiles used on the bottom of our space shuttle.
The ORKA Oven Mitt is available in blue and translucent silicone -- MSRP is $19.99.
