Bowne Global Solutions has announced that they have completed an 18 month project to adapt 3Com's Palm Computing platform for the Japanese market. First, the two companies worked to refine the feature set for the Japanese market. The organizer software was then modified to support the double-byte characters used in Japanese and other Asian languages. Finally, the software was translated and localized for Japanese. Bowne provided this translation and localization service in addition to quality assurance testing, project management and external beta test management. The newly engineered product now provides a completely Japanese interface and introduces a new Japanese input system. Other features include an expense tracking application, as well as English-to-Japanese and Japanese-to-English dictionaries. All of these new functions and applications were also developed by Bowne Global Solutions. Now the hugely popular palm computer can compete with its more established, tablet-sized cousins in Asia and Japan, where pen input is a natural fit.
