i-O Display Systems just announced the latest version of its i-glasses head-mounted display with a price tag that might make your dreams of virtual reality into a fiscal reality. The sleek, translucent blue visor looks like something straight out of The Matrix but simply allows you to "jack-in" to a NTSC/S-Video source to play the latest DVD or video game on a virtual video wall with stereo sound. This 8 oz. gadget has a practical side, too. Plugged-into a bedroom VCR, you could watch late night TV without giving your spouse a flicker- induced headache. Or, shoot your next home video from the hip (literally). Imagine the kid's-eye view footage you could get without spending the afternoon hunched over an eyepiece. If the idea of CRT-free video intrigues you, you now can afford to find the killer app for it.
