Metrowerks recently announced a new version of their powerful CodeWarrior software development tool. Specifically designed for students, this “Learning Edition” can help students begin to master the basics of C, C++ and Java. Metrowerks products have been selected by over 1,100 top schools and universities in the United States, Canada and Europe for use in software programming training.
The Learning Edition also:
runs on both MacOS and Windows platforms
is easy to install
uses a simple integrated development environment (IDE)
features customizable menu bars which can be changed and rearranged to fit your needs
includes the Carnegie Mellon University Graphics package so geometric shapes and graphic images can be easily added to created software
Has simplified documentation, developed specifically for student programmers.
Includes step-by-step training materials including a free "Introduction to CodeWarrior" training course.
is priced at only $49
Metrowerks also offers free on-line courses in programming on their CodeWarriorU.com that have been on-line for over 6 months (since January 2000). Over 40,000 people have registered, making CodeWarriorU.com the world's largest source for free on-line programming courses. Courses are self-paced and available on a 24x7 basis
Note to parents/grandparents, etc: Instead of merely having your children playing video games or simply surfing the Internet to be entertained, why not have them get familiar with computer programming? Now, if they become frustrated with a video game, they could contemplate writing their own (and Metrowerks has the development tools for most of the top gaming platforms).
