Sane Solutions
NetTracker 5.0
by Rick Smith (July 18, 2001)

If you have a web site, how to you know which pages visitors are reading? If you have an e-commerce site, you are also wondering what path your customers are traveling on your site. Questions like these need to be answered with web site traffic analysis software. Sane Solutions has a scalable product called NetTracker 5.0 that comes in three different sizes, depending on the number sites you want to track and the size of your daily log files.
For a single site, NetTracker Professional can handle the job at $495. For multiple sites and more built-in reports, NetTracker Enterprise starts at $995 for 5 sites and can be built-up in 5 site increments. This Enterprise version is handy for ISPs or for tracking your FTP, firewall and proxy server in addition to your web and secure e-commerce server. If you have several gigabytes of LOG FILES a day, (a problem I would LOVE to have) then you need the NetTracker eBusiness edition. It starts at $9,995 and also requires a backend Oracle or SQL Server database as well.
In addition to performing standard web usage summaries, NetTracker 5.0 also:
Measures and tracks repeat, new and unique visitors
Can cluster visitors into categories by their actions
Aids analysis by allowing content to be grouped into categories
Shows trends by comparing traffic over time
if desired, can e-mail reports of relevant information to other coworkers or managers
Analyzes dynamic content by parsing URLs, query strings or cookies
Requires no client software installation -- runs from a browser
The overwhelming feature of NetTracker is that unlike most statistical analysis software packages, it has the ability to “drill down” into the data, to see individual clickstreams that underlie the summarized statistical information.
Reviews OnLine is currently reviewing the Professional version of NetTracker 5.0.
