Hyundai Corporation
by Jim Bennett
Hyundai is the long established Korean manufacturer that has been selling cars in the United States since the early eighties. It is best-known for selling inexpensive vehicles with a generous offering of standard equipment. First time and budget conscious buyers drove the company sales to record levels in the eighties. However, quality and reliability issues, regional economic slow downs, coupled with intense competition from the Japanese and others, severely effected its sales and profitability.
This determined and hard working company is from the same country that brings us e-Machine computers, Samsung Electronics and other electronic marvels at highly affordable prices with good performance. In the automotive industry, the 2000 model year has several product and customer satisfaction surprises from Korea, starting with the Hyundai Accent.
